  • SNOW! I thought this was Fall?!

Today's weather was CRAZY!  We woke up this morning with no electricity- which meant no heat, no hot water and NO BLOW DRYER!!!  I could not believe it.  Then Heath's car would not start (the batery is officially dead). Thank you Lord for tests.

I know that we live in Michigan but I have never experienced weather like we had today, even when I was "up north".  I would look out my office window and one minute it looked like a blizzard outside with heavy winds and blowing snow and then the next minute it was bright and sunny.

On a more positive note we have been very busy this week and for good reason.   We had a meeting at DHQ regarding our After School program grants and found that we, Pontiac Citadel, have at least half of the total enrollment from the six metro sites!!!  We are so excited about the overwhelming response we have had from our community for this program.  Coodos to our Community Center Director EJ Swanson for all of his hard work in recruiting for us.

One prayer request- we had yet another meeting with an adoption agency on Tuesday night this week.  We are excited about the prospect of having an infant within the next couple of years.  We are in need of your prayers to help make that happen.

  • Rain! Cool Breezes and Beautiful Fall Colors!

I LOVE FALL!  I love to take long drives and look at the beauty of the changing leaves.  I love to be able to wear a sweatshirt and jeans, and still be comfortable.  Sipping hot apple cider, the smell of pumpkin pie, hay rides and bonfires.  I do not like the cold rain however and it seems that we have had our share the past couple of days.

Today at Officer's Councils we continued to learn from Dr. Lake about the importance of discipleship.  I have always known that actions speak louder than words, but in today's day and age we Christians need to be both acting and speaking.  I am always convicted by the thought that I might be the only Jesus someone sees and I fear that they are not seeing the real Lord.  Living as a disciple is more than just being convicted though, it is acting on those convictions and changing your ways.  Truly how do we represent our Lord to His world?  What do we watch on TV?  What do we listen to in the car?  What level of conviction do we have when choosing movies?  How do we talk to our spouse, family, children when we don't think anyone else is watching?

Dr. Lake said that when he started a parenting discipleship class in his church he invited his two daughters to come one night and speak to the participants of how they felt their parents where at raising them.  He found that what he thought was something that only happened at home-when no one was watching-really impacted his children.  The eldest said of them that they never saw their parents argue.  He admitted that he and his wife did have arguments, they just did not do so in front of their children.  His youngest child said that she enjoyed having a date once a month with her dad because it made her feel as though he always had time for her and his family even in his business as a pastor.  What our home is like- is evindence to me of what our life is like.  The close we are to Christ the more we are like Him.  The more we are like Him the better we represent Him.

So what do you do?  What is your house like?  I have had to examine this now even deeper and have been challenged to be a better Christian, disciple, and wife.

  • I'm Back!

Hey gang!  Sorry it has taken me so long to write.  To be honest I could not remember my password- then I just plain gave up.  God gave me a memory today and YEAH I was able to get in!  Heath and I were transfered in June to Pontiac, MI.  We are enjoying getting to know our new family.  We have been blessed with fellowship both with fellow officers and our corps family as well.  We recently took some vacation time in MO and got to spend some time with our family there.  We really did not have a "fun" vacation in that we had to do some important business helping an aging grandfather get his finances in order.  I guess I am thankful we were able to that (we just recently within the last couple of years renewed a relationship with our grandfather after some 20 years of absense).  We got to see our nieces and nephew as well.  I was so excited to hear Andrew say my name.  He is such a joy to watch- an a handful too.

Last week we were able to visit with Heath's family in IA.  We were so thankful to be able to see our brother Raymond, who is a SGT in the Army and just returned from his second tour in Iraq.  We are grateful to God for his protection while helping to serve our country and keep us safe.  We also got to see his family whom we have not seen in two years.  WOW how the girls have grown up.  Heath has four other siblings that live in IA as well as his mom and we also got to spend some time with all of them and the many nieces and nephews there.  We so miss our families!  We charish every moment we have with them.

Now we are at Officers Councils and the first meetings were great.  We hope to become refreshed and renewed in our Spirits as we listen and learn from our speaker this week.

Hopefully I will write more again soon.  Until later!  Blessing to you all!
